Galan Lithium has kicked off a 2500m drilling program targeting lithium-bearing pegmatites. The campaign at its Greenbushes South lithium project is just 3km from the world-class Greenbushes lithium mine in WA. In August last year the company’s soil sampling and geophysical survey at the site uncovered a number of anomalies demanding further investigation.
The Greenbushes South tenements cover an area of 315 square kilometres located along the Donnybrook-Bridgetown shear zone which also hosts the renowned Greenbushes lithium deposit.
Not satisfied with its current hit list, the company is also undertaking geological mapping, soil sampling and geophysical surveys across other parts of the Greenbushes South project to generate additional lithium targets.
Over 550 additional soil samples have been submitted for analysis and follow-up geophysics is to be conducted over any resulting soil anomalies to generate further drill targets.
Galan Lithium Managing Director, Juan Pablo Vargas de la Vega said: “We look forward to testing our hypothesis, via this maiden drilling campaign, that significant lithium mineralisation exists south of the Greenbushes Mine. We are extremely encouraged by all data collected to date that demonstrates the strong potential for this to be the case.”
To the north of Greenbushes, airborne geophysics by Galan has turned up four target areas for lithium pegmatites located under cover at its Kirup project. The company now plans further geological mapping and soil sampling to delineate mineralisation in the areas before it points the drill bit.
Galan’s lithium portfolio also extends to Argentina with two world-class lithium brine projects with significant resources of low impurity high-grade lithium brine. The company has bullishly declared the projects to be the highest-grade lithium brine projects in Argentina.
However, the prize for Galan at Greenbushes South could potentially take them into the next stratosphere. The nearby Greenbushes mine has been producing lithium from spodumene-rich pegmatites since 1985. The main zone is over 3km long and 300m wide and famously lays claim to the highest-grade hard rock lithium in the world.
Greenbushes is a typical lithium-caesium-tantalum pegmatite with over 15 million tonnes of lithium carbonate equivalent in resources and reserves.
Results from the maiden drilling campaign will be highly anticipated with the lithium bulls watching them like a hawk. Any sniff of another Greenbushes could have Galan off to the races.
