The Australian engineering and infrastructure management services company has secured a rail package contract worth about $40 million.
The rail package contract is a part of the ‘ore car repair workshop’ which encompasses “the design and workshop, including design of signalling and communications system, construction of new track equipment rooms, new cable and routes and other works.”
Downer said it expected the work to be completed by the second half of this year.
The second awarded contract is valued at about $60 million.
This contract is a part of BHP Billiton’s $US301 million two shiploaders replacement project at Nelson Point in Port Hedland.
Downer said this contract would involve upgrading two conveyors at Nelson point, Port Hedland, followed by deconstruction of the existing ship loaders.
BHP announced the project last year and said the two new shiploaders have a loading capacity of 12,500 tonnes per hour.
The second contract is expected to be completed by June 2015.
