Dateline Resources has landed a cracking validation at its Colosseum gold and rare earths project in California, with a second 3D magnetotelluric (MT) inversion survey confirming its soon-to-be-tested carbonatite rare earths target.
Hot on the heels of a recent geophysical breakthrough, the fresh results double down on the project’s potential to deliver a major rare earths discovery.
United States President Donald Trump has declared the project would become the country’s “second rare earths mine” to fuel its critical minerals supply, joining neighbour MP Materials’ Mountain Pass as a globally significant rare earths project.
The new high-tech ModEM inversion, run by industry guru Kate Selway at Vox Geosciences, mirrors an earlier 3D model produced by Viridien Geophysics. Both paint a clear picture of a hefty resistive anomaly stretching from the surface to about 1000 metres depth, which screams of carbonatite-hosted rare earths potential akin to the Mountain Pass mine.
The anomaly is backed by a gravity high and magnetic low, a geological dead ringer for the world-class Mountain Pass. The near-identical models from two different codes give rock-solid confidence in the target’s legs, which the experts now say is “ready for drilling”.
Major Drilling’s rigs will roll in over the next few weeks to tackle a 2200N target, with diamond drilling already hammering away at the project’s gold zones. The 2200N area is previously untouched by historical drilling and offers a fresh shot at a rare earths win distinct from Colosseum’s gold-focused past.
Dateline Resources managing director Stephen Baghdadi said: “This new modelling, conducted by two highly skilled groups, using different analysis software and inversion modelling methods, has confirmed the exciting 2200N rare earth target. We look forward to drill testing our new rare earths and gold targets and adding further value for shareholders.”
While the rare earths buzz takes centre stage, Dateline has not lost sight of Colosseum’s core 27.1-million-tonne gold resource, grading 1.26 grams per tonne for 1.1 million ounces.
A bankable feasibility study (BFS) is charging ahead, with infill and extensional drilling feeding into mine design. A parallel review of six breccia pipe gold targets, flagged in August, is underway to sharpen the company’s drill plans.
The anomalies also mirror the project’s known gold-bearing North and South pipes and could stretch the resource well beyond its current resource bounds.
Dateline’s dual-track strategy of pushing gold to production while chasing rare earths for the future gets a boost from its geophysical win.
Its carbonatite hallmarks align with global demand for critical minerals, especially in the US, where Colosseum’s proximity to Mountain Pass makes it a strategic player.
With rigs mobilising, Dateline’s dual commodity momentum is palpable. The company is sitting pretty with $35 million in the bank from last month’s raise, which is enough to power this campaign and beyond. As gold prices hold at record highs and rare earths demand surges, Colosseum is shaping up as a blue-sky scenario for already charging Dateline.
