AIRFARES have never been cheaper. Since 1964, when jets were introduced onto Australian domestic routes, average weekly earnings have leapt 1,705 per cent, from $57 a week to $1,029. Over the same period, economy airfares from Perth-Melbourne have risen 80 per cent from $105 to just $189.
