South Perth-based Cooper & Oxley Group has won a $44 million contract over redevelopment work at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.
The North Metropolitan Health Service has awarded Cooper & Oxley with the contract, which covers an upgrade of the emergency department and a new clinical toxicology unit.
Georgiou Group also submitted an application for the contract, according to Tenders WA.
The contract awarded to Cooper & Oxley will start on February 19, to finish by 2027.
The tender process for the redevelopment of the hospital in Nedlands was opened in late September, as announced by the state government.
The proposed redevelopment, as part of a $49.5 million program, also includes improved observation ward, ambulance facilities, a fast-track area, a dedicated pitstop space, and new walkways.
"We are focused on providing the best treatment for alcohol and other drug related presentations with a new state of the art Clinical Toxicology Unit included in the upgrade,” Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson said in September.
In its announcement, the state government said the pit top area is expected to streamline early management for patients who could be admitted, which includes blood tests and scans.
The fast-track area would be a high-demand zone for ambulant, low-complexity patients.
A new entrance canopy has also been proposed, to protect visitors from the weather when using the main entrance to the hospital from the piazza.
