The state government is pushing ahead with the project despite strong pushback from parts of the community.

The state government has appointed Civmec, Seymour Whyte Constructions and Aurecon to build the controversial Burswood entertainment and sporting precinct.
Sport and Recreation Minister Rita Saffioti today announced that the civil construction and engineering firms would deliver the $217.5 million project in an alliance.
The contractors will work with the Office of Major Infrastructure Delivery to deliver the project, which includes a motorsport and cycling track and outdoor amphitheatre.
“This … will see the Burswood precinct realise its full potential, delivering significant economic benefits for the State, along with quality public infrastructure for the local and wider community.
“The alliance team we’re bringing on board to deliver this project are behind some of the most iconic infrastructure projects we’ve seen in this State, including the recently completed Boorloo Bridge.”
Carabiner was appointed as the architect for the precinct, and will work closely with the alliance.
The proposal, which was an election commitment, has sparked criticism from community members about its potential impact on the environment and about an apparent lack of public consultation.
Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier Daniel Pastorelli, who was appointed to oversee the project, said the alliance team would incorporate community feedback.
“As government lead for the project, I will ensure there is more opportunities for community input as we progress through the design stages,” he said.
The state government is aiming for the precinct to be complete in 2027.
