Aspiring gold miner, Classic Minerals has bolstered its board with the appointment of non-executive director, Ms Gillian King as the company looks to bring its Kat Gap gold project in WA into production. Ms King is of Noongar and Gurindji heritage and adds human resource and indigenous affairs expertise to the company’s board.
Only this week Classic was granted a mining lease for Kat Gap and the company continues to make inroads in its operations with the key appointment of Ms King.
She has a track record of working with remote indigenous communities in the Pilbara that includes assisting with employment opportunities and managing finances. Other past professional appointments saw Ms King employed by the Disability Services Commission as a social trainer and as an indigenous support worker for families experiencing domestic violence.
She holds a qualification in training, assessing and mentoring indigenous staff for employment retention, together with a certificate in metalliferous mining.

The granting of the mining lease for Kat Gap marks a key milestone for classic as it looks to transition from explorer to miner.
Located some 170 kilometres south of Southern Cross, Kat Gap boasts a 93,000-ounce resource going 2.96 grams per tonne gold with 95 to 96 per cent recovery grades reported by the company.
Previous drilling by Classic has delivered some head-turning hits including 4 metres going 76 grams per tonne gold from 79 metres, with a 1m interval at a bonanza grade 304 g/t gold.
Other intercepts include 3m at 62.1 g/t gold from 36m and 10m at 30.77 g/t gold from 28m.
The deposit is located along a 5-kilometre geochemical anomaly that according to Classic is under-explorer and shows potential for further discoveries to be made within the project tenure.
The company already owns a processing plant with a 30 tonne per hour capacity, with capability to be scaled up to 250 tonnes per hour.
