The City called for tenders for planting and maintaining 85,000 trees which, when mature, should be able to capture about 15,600 tonnes of carbon dioxide.
The mallee eucalypt trees will be planted on land acquired by the company and specifically designated as 'City of Perth 2011 Plantation.'
"A benefit to the City is that the plantation can be cost effectively managed over 40 years in conjunction with other nearby plantation established for our other clients," said Carbon Conscious CEO Peter Balsarini.
"We are especially pleased to be involved with the City of Perth which has demonstrated interest in planting trees to off-set greenhouse emissions associated with parking activities," he said.
Under the contract, the "Carbon Rights" will be vested in the City of Perth and lodged on the title of the land where the plantation is to be established.

Carbon Conscious Limited has been awarded the 2010/11 carbon off‐set tree planting tender for the City of Perth.
The City called tenders for planting and maintaining 85,000 trees. When mature, the trees are required to entrap an estimated 15,600 tonnes of carbon dioxide and equivalent.
Carbon Conscious successfully competed against all companies which tendered for the planting program.
The report to the council noted that Carbon Conscious Limited has contracts with two large companies to plant millions of trees uses large scale commercial planting equipment specifically built for soil preparation and planting, and records GPS coordinates for all rows to assist with monitoring and site management. The report also noted that the plantation would improve primary production by providing shelter for pasture and grazing.

Mr Balsarini noted that Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi said that the Council was leading the way in responsible environmental managemnt of car parks. The City had a similar tree planting program in 2009.
Under the contract the rights to the carbon sequestered by the mallees, the "Carbon Rights" will be vested in the City of Perth and lodged on the title of the land where the plantation is to be established. The parties are currently finalising all associated contractual documents.
Since its listing on the Australian Stock Exchange, Carbon Conscious Limited has concentrated on developing technologies to enable large scale planting for corporate clients suchas Origin Energy and BP, as well as a rapidly growing list of clients wishing to voluntarily commit to a carbon off‐set program.

Mr Balsarini said that in excess of 5 million mallee eucalypt seedlings were planted in 2010 and by the time the mallee treeshave reached maturity they should have sequestered over one million tonnes of CO2e.
