The City of Joondalup will not renew the contract of chief executive James Pearson, resolving to put the position to the open market.
Mr Pearson, who has been chief executive at Joondalup since 2021, will not have his contract renewed past March 2026.
He intends to see out his five-year term, before departing from the job.
City of Joondalup mayor Albert Jacob said a new recruitment process would begin after October’s local government elections.
“On behalf of the council, I thank Mr Pearson for his dedication and leadership,” he said.
“He was appointed in late-2020 with a background in the business sector as well as senior government roles, and this equipped him to be a tremendous asset for the City of Joondalup.
“In his time at the city he has overseen progress on major projects such as Ocean Reef Marina, the reactivation of Hillarys Boat Harbour, and the growth of the Joondalup Festival to a national award-winning spectacular held across our suburbs.
“He has also led the rollout of an ambitious capital works program, built partnerships with the private sector and government, and advocated successfully for record levels of investment in our region from state and federal governments.
“We greatly appreciate Mr Pearson’s continuing commitment to the City and supporting a smooth transition to a new CEO.”
Mr Jacob said the City would continue its focus on serving the community in the interim.
Mr Pearson is a past chief executive of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of WA, which yesterday revealed its current CEO – Peter Cock – would not continue in his role.
He previously worked in communications and external affairs across the oil and gas sector.
