Centurion flags $30m Crawley build
Singapore-based developer Centurion has flagged a Western Australian entry, earmarking a Crawley site for a $30 million student accommodation project.
The proposed facility, dubbed 55 Fairway, comprises 199 rooms across nine storeys, basement parking, ground floor tenancies and amenities including lounge, study area, pool, gym, and courtyards.
Estimated to cost $29.6 million, the proposed student accommodation on 55-57 Fairway in Crawley was lodged in the state government’s Significant Development Assessment Unit pathway.
The proposal was submitted by Fairway Development (Aus) Pty Ltd, which is owned by Singaporean developer Centurion Properties.
Centurion entered the student accommodation sector after acquiring Melbourne-based RMIT Village, a 456-bed facility, in early 2014.
The company claims it operates 17 purpose-built student accommodation assets in Australia, the UK, and the US as of December 2023.
The proposed Crawley build will have a strong connection to the adjoining University of Western Australia campus in Crawley, according to the development application prepared by Planning Solutions on behalf of Centurion.
“The development provides additional and diverse housing opportunities for students, reducing pressure on the surrounding traditional housing that students are reliant on for housing in proximity to the university,” the application reads.
“As the city matures and our universities becomes more attractive to international students, it is critical we provide housing options in areas in proximity to campus and amenities to house them.
“Currently, there are no private student accommodation providers within proximity to UWA Crawley.”
Existing buildings will be removed if the proposal is approved, according to the application.
“The subject site currently comprises two residential dwellings, with associated landscaping, parking, and access,” the application said.
“The existing dwellings are considered in average condition and approaching the end of their lifespan.”
RP data shows 55 Fairway in Crawley was sold to A&R Development Holdings for $1.28 million while 57 Fairway was sold to Edward Hopkins for $1.65 million.
Both properties settled in May 2021.
