Cathay Pacific Airways is adding five more flights to its Perth service to Hong Kong from October 28, bringing the total to 11 a week.
Of the new flights, the addition of a night flight takes the overnight service to daily, while the other four are daylight flights.
With the additional flights the airline is switching from the Boeing 777 to the Airbus A350.
The new daytime flight will depart Perth at 11am and arrive in Hong Kong at 6.45pm, and will operate on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
The return flight operates on the same days and departs Hong Kong at 1.50am, arriving in Perth at 9.30am.
"This expansion of Cathay Pacific’s services is a clear indication of the strengthening ties between Hong Kong and Western Australia. It reflects the increasing demand for travel between our regions and the growing appeal of WA as a premier tourism destination,” Acting Tourism Minister John Carey said.
That view was supported by Perth Airport chief commercial & aviation officer Kate Holsgrove, who said the airline’s decision to operate more flights to Perth was indicative of the international aviation market’s confidence in Perth as a destination.
“Business travellers, students, tourists, and those visiting family and friends are key focus sectors between Perth and Hong Kong,” she said.
“The new services provide 140,000 seats annually to the Perth inbound and outbound market and provide local exporters with crucial cargo capacity between Perth and Hong Kong and North Asia.
“Cathay Pacific has been an important airline partner for more than fifty years, and we are delighted that the airline remains committed to connecting Perth and WA to Hong Kong and beyond.
“Cathay Pacific has excellent connections to over 200 destinations worldwide, including Asia, Europe and North America offering Western Australians access to a range of travel destinations.”
