CIMIC Group subsidiary CPB Contractors has been awarded a Rio Tinto contract valued at $250 million.
CPB has been selected to deliver work at Rio Tinto’s Western Range iron ore mine in the Pilbara with the work set to commence in 2023.
The scope of the project comprises of construction of structural earthworks to enable the installation of new materials-handling infrastructure, sustaining production at Paraburdoo Central Facilities.
CIMIC Group executive chairman Juan Santamaria said CIMIC has decades of experience working in the Pilbara.
“CIMIC Group companies provide a suite of end-to-end services to our clients in the resources sector,” Mr Santamaria said.
“Our team will work closely with Rio Tinto to safely deliver the project on time and to requirements, to support operations.”
CPB managing director Jason Spears said as the contractor it would be looking to create opportunities for local suppliers and Indigenous businesses while it prepares to deliver the project.
“Our teams have demonstrated their disciplined approach to delivery on other Pilbara resources projects and are pleased to apply their expertise to support Rio Tinto’s development of the new Western Range mine,” Mr Spears said.
The project is scheduled to be completed in 2024.
