CIMIC Group subsidiaries Sedgman and CPB Contractors have won a $757 million contract from BHP.
Both companies, which will engage in a joint venture under the deal, will undertake extensive design and construction work at BHP’s Western Ridge crusher project, located 21km south-west of Newman, which will begin at the end of the month.
Sedgman and CPB Contractors are no strangers to the global resources company or Western Ridge, having worked closely with BHP over the past year in progressing design, engineering and long-lead procurement activities towards the project.
In 2022, CPB also booked a $100 million contract with BHP in order to facilitate a de-bottlenecking project at its Port Hedland-based Nelson Point iron ore port.
“The unique combination of Sedgman’s mineral processing experience and CPB Contractors’ construction expertise provides our clients with the certainty of a proven track record in the delivery of major process infrastructure in the mining industry,” CIMIC executive chair Juan Santamaria said.
BHP expects Western Ridge to be production-ready by the first quarter of the 2027 financial year.
Last month, Sedgman expanded its services by acquiring West Perth-based Minsol Engineering, which marked its third purchase within the critical minerals sector.
