A group of Business News journalists have been recognised as finalists in the WA Media Awards for their extensive and exclusive coverage of the state’s business and political landscape.
Four journalists from the state's largest team of business reporters have been announced as finalists in a range of categories ahead of the Media, Entertainment and Arts Alliance's WA Media Awards ceremony on November 7.
In its 30th year, the annual awards recognise and honour the work of Western Australia’s best journalists, photographers and broadcasters, who uphold the highest standards of journalism.
Senior political reporter Gary Adshead has been recognised as a finalist in columnist category for his body of work analysing and critiquing the state’s political sphere, examining issues ranging from council dysfunction to political party upheaval.
Chief of staff Isabel Vieira has been named a finalist for her coverage of the rise, rebrand and retraction of Perth retail dynasty Betts, through to its eventual tumble into administration, in the business, economics and finance category.
Senior journalist Tom Zaunmayr is a finalist in the legal affairs category for his extensive and compelling reporting inside the long-running fight by the Banjima traditional owners to clean up asbestos tailings at Wittenoom.
Journalist Ella Loneragan – who joined Business News in 2025 – has been recognised in the new journalist or cadet category for her reporting on Perth’s property sector, in particular, her exclusive reporting on the escalating cost of the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre redevelopment.
The recognition for Business News team comes as the masthead continues to invest in its journalism, recently expanding to Canberra with the appointment of senior journalist Adrian Rollins.
“These nominations reflect the efforts of the Business News editorial team over the past 12 months, and those of the organisation as a whole,” acting executive editor Jack McGinn said.
“They are the result of quality reporting, in line with our focus on providing readers with the useful, relevant and timely journalism and data they need to make informed decisions in the WA business landscape.
“It is particularly pleasing to see the efforts of multiple Business News journalists – Tom Zaunmayr, Isabel Vieira, Gary Adshead and Ella Loneragan – recognised with award nominations from their WA media industry peers.”
The winners of the WA Media Awards will be announced on November 7.
