The $25 million timber-frame development is due to be built in the first half of 2024.
Bluerock Projects is set to build a $25 million build-to-rent apartment project in Midland, following approval from planning authorities.
To be designed by architects Rothelowman, the four-storey timber-frame development, comprising 51 apartments, was approved via state government pathway DevelopmentWA earlier this year.
This week, Cottesloe-based Bluerock said it would start building the Helena Street project in the first half of next year.
Bluerock Projects director Stuart Hawley said the project, which is set to be Midland’s first build-to-rent development, aligned well with the Midland market.
"It made sense to establish a larger build-to-rent portfolio in Midland given the ongoing demand for rental properties in the area,” he said.
“Tuohy Gardens [the apartments] will also showcase our company's timber construction capability and further emphasise the environmental and cost benefits of large-scale timber development projects.”
Rothelowman principal Kylee Schoonens said the project complemented the growth of the area by delivering much-needed housing to an area that has recently undergone major urban regeneration.
“This project has been designed to support the influx of people who are part of the flourishing town centre,” she said.
The apartments will sit within the Metronet precinct, with a new Midland train station set for the area.
