WA Labor has received almost $140,000 worth of donations since the state’s new disclosure laws kicked off on July 1, with Perdaman the latest business to give to the party.
The updated rules require parties to disclose donations over $1,000 within a week of receipt.
The laws have so far created more work at head office for the WA Labor Party, which has reported 22 donations worth $138,850 in the first 10 days of the new financial year.
No other party has disclosed donations over the period.
The WA branch of the Construction, Forestry and Maritime Employees Union was the largest single donor to the party, contributing $25,000 on July 1.
That was followed in size by donations from the WA Chamber of Minerals and Energy and Andrew Forrest’s Tattarang, which contributed $16,500 and $15,000 respectively on July 4.
Chris Ellison-led Mineral Resources made two separate contributions worth a combined $8250 on the same day, and grain growers co-operative CBH Group gave $6,600.
Most recently, Perdaman Chemicals and Fertilisers – the company behind the massive urea plant in the state’s North West – donated $8,800 to the party on July 9.
Satterley Property Group, St John of God Health Care, property developer Urban Collectives and Bill Beament-led mining company Develop Global also feature on the donations register.
The shift to weekly donation disclosure by the state Electoral Commission comes eight months out from the 2025 state election.
WA Labor raised more than $6.5 million last financial year from donations, ahead of the state Liberals who brought in around $4.5 million.
New disclosure laws were introduced as part of a suite of measures designed to improve transparency in the political process introduced to parliament by the current state government, with amendments rushed through as recently as June.
Under the new rules, political parties and candidates will be required to disclose donations by the end of the following business day during the official election campaign period.
