Midas Minerals has recruited Carl Travaglini as its chief financial officer. Mr Travaglini has more than 14 years of experience in the resources sector, having served in various finance and company secretarial roles in Australia, Canada and Africa. Prior to joining Midas Minerals, Mr Travaglini was the chief financial officer and company secretary at Essential Metals.
Senior counsel Sam Vandongen has been appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court of Western Australia, joining the bench on November 2. He is a barrister at Francis Burt Chambers. Mr Vandongen has practiced as a barrister since 2008 and was appointed a senior counsel in 2010, having participated in more than 170 appeals in WA courts.
Robert Owen has started his five-year tenure as the director of public prosecutions this week. He has been acting in the role, replacing Amanda Forrester, since July. Mr Owen was a senior state prosecutor and acting senior consultant state prosecutor for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions between 2019 and 2022.
Former federal minister Ben Morton will join the board of Insurance Commission of Western Australia, the state’s second largest fund manager. Mr Morton held the seat of Tangney from 2016 until the Liberal Party’s defeat at the 2022 federal election. He held several positions in the Morrison government, including assistant minister to the prime minister and cabinet.
Clive Haddow will lead Fortuna Foundation, part of Fortuna Advisory Group, as its chief executive. Mr Haddow has worked in the not-for-profit sector for the past 14 years. He was the chief executive officer at Joondalup Business Association and the president of the St Johns Crisis Centre. Mr Haddow was also the chief executive at Malaga and Districts Business Association.
Greg Mawer has been appointed as a non-executive director and treasurer for the Chamber of Arts and Culture WA. Mr Mawer is an accountant, business and tax advisor, and a director at Accumulate Accountants + Business Advisors, a company he founded in 2013. Prior to founding his consulting firm, Mr Mawer worked for BGC Consulting, Andreas Walewski Consulting and at Pike and Skinner.
Health insurer HBF announced Lachlan Henderson will be its new chief executive officer, replacing John Van Der Wielen. Dr Henderson will return to WA after five years in Victoria. He has led Epworth HealthCare since 2017 and worked for St John of God Health Care in a variety of senior roles. Dr Henderson will start his new role in February.
