Deutsche Bank’s Joe Longo has joined Herbert Smith Freehills’ financial services regulatory practice, following a 17-year career with the German-based bank. His appointment comes amid the Deutsche Bank’s massive downsizing this past month. Based in the firm’s Perth office, Mr Longo said he was excited to share his experience with clients, focusing on providing insight into how global banks have navigated regulatory engagement and managing non-financial risk.
Sandfire Resources has announced Jason Grace as the company’s new chief operating officer, commencing in September. He will succeed Richard Beazley, who has been in the role on an interim basis for two years. Mr Grace boasts more than two-and-a-half decades of experience in mining across Australia and Asia-Pacific, and was most recently executive general manager of iron ore for Mineral Resources.
Danielle Davison and Samantha Reece have been appointed to Perth Football League’s board ahead of its 100th anniversary in 2021. Rebranded from the WA Amateur Football League in 2019, PFL comprises 66 clubs, 261 teams and 10,485 players in the Perth metro area. PFL president Sam Birmingham said that Ms Davison and Ms Reece would lead the league to develop strategies to ensure it remains relevant for the next 100 years.
Attorney General John Quigley has appointed Catherine Fletcher as information commissioner, an independent officer who reports directly to the parliament. She has served in the role in acting capacity for the past year, and in her capacity will review decisions made by government agencies under the Freedom of Information Act 1992. Mr Quigley said Ms Fletcher’s experience and skills made her eminently suitable for the role.
The City of Perth has appointed The Shire of Denmark chief executive’s Bill Parker to its executive leadership team, serving as general manager of the corporate services alliance. His appointment is the second of four to be filled. Mr Parker said in a statement he was passionate about making a difference to Perth’s council, and he would draw on his experience undertaking a rebuilding project with the Shire of Denmark to the role.
