Experienced planner Ryan Hall has joined the board of DevelopmentWA, bringing more than two decades of development services experience to the state government body. Mr Hall currently works at the City of Greater Geraldton as the director of development services, after former stints at the Cities of Karratha, Wanneroo, Vincent, Gosnells, and Townsville. Existing DevelopmentWA board member Jo Gaines has also had her tenure extended for an additional three years. She has sat on the board since March 2022.
Perth-based Elena Limnios has been named as the new chair of the national Hellenic Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry National Federation. Dr Limnios also serves as president of the Western Australian division of the federation, a role she has held since late 2021. Beyond HACCI, Dr Limnios is a founding executive director of Limnios Projects, chief executive of strategy at Limnios Property Group, chair of the Perth NRM board, and a non-executive director at South Metropolitan TAFE.
ASX-listed Aurora Energy Metals has announced Warren Hallam as its newest board addition, effective January 2025. Mr Hallam has more than 35 years of mining industry experience including significant service as Metals X managing director and chief executive until 2018. In addition to his new role with Aurora Energy Metals, Mr Hallam sits on the boards of St Barbara, Kingfisher Mining, Poseidon Nickel and Horizon Minerals.
A former banking executive and an economics professor have been appointed to the Reserve Bank board, following a six-month review into monetary policy setting. Former Adelaide and Bendigo Bank chief executive Marnie Baker and Australian National University academic Renee Fry-McKibbin will join the monetary policy board. Ms Baker departed Adelaide and Bendigo Bank after 35 years in July, including six years running the bank as chief executive and managing director. Professor Fry-McKibbin was one of three panelists who conducted the independent review into the RBA, and her academic expertise is centred on international macroeconomics and financial market shocks for resource-rich economies. The pair will start their tenure at the beginning of March 2025.
The woman in charge of steering the state government’s Collie transition agenda has been selected to lead the South West Development Commission. Cate Brooks was announced as the regional development body’s new chief executive, replacing Melissa Teede who spent five years in the role after unsuccessfully running for Labor in the 2019 federal election. Ms Brooks has for the past two years served as director of the Department of Premier and Cabinet’s Collie Delivery Unit, which was responsible for delivery of the $662 million package to transition the inland town out of its dependence on coal mining.
Ross Donaldson is set to become the next Australian Institute of Architects WA chapter president in February, after Sandy Anghie steps down from the position. Ms Anghie announced she would not run for another term as president of the institute, after three years in the job. Mr Donaldson is a current member of the Australian Institute of Architects and chair of its sustainability taskforce. With has more than four decades’ experience in architecture, he had his own practice in the 1990s, before moving to global firm Woods Bagot. In 2017, Mr Donaldson founded property advisory company EPM Experimental, which he is still a director of. He is also adjunct professor at UWA and a member of the Curtin Advisory Board.
