City of Mandurah has voted in Casey Mihovilovich as chief executive, succeeding Mark Newman who had held the role for 20 years. Ms Mihovilovich has been City of Mandurah business services director since 2019 and prior to this, she worked senior roles at City of Kwinana and Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale. Mr Newman is expected to step away from the role mid-2023 with Ms Mihovilovich assuming the job on July 19.
Latin Resources has announced their new chief financial officer as Mitchell Thomas. Mr Thomas was previously working the same role at Blackstone Minerals for nine months. Before this he was employed at Rio Tinto for 12 years, working in Australia, Peru, the United States and London. The final two years of his Rio Tinto stint was spent in Los Angeles working as chief financial officer for battery materials. Mr Thomas commenced his role at Latin Resources in March.
Panetta McGrath Lawyers has announced two new appointments to its employment and workplace relations team. Victoria Stamper has been recruited as special counsel. Prior to this, she worked at HWL Ebsworth Lawyers for nine years taking up the role of senior associate for most of that time. Panetta McGrath also appointed Joseph Lloyd to its team as senior associate. He worked as senior lawyer at the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety for three years before this.
Real estate agency LAWD has also expanded its Perth team, recruiting Don Fry and Lorelle Fry to lead its new Brunswick office as directors of transactions. Mr and Ms Fry have worked in the property sector for a combined 30 years, specialising on rural, residential and lifestyle property. Over the past six years, they have led the transaction of 260 properties. Most recently, Mr and Ms Fry have focused on property in the South West of WA.
WA-based medicinal cannabis producer Cannaponics has appointed Tammy O'Connor as a director on its board. Ms O'Connor is managing director of environmental health service provider KingKira. She founded the company to provide development opportunities for Aboriginal people. Ms O'Connor has extensive knowledge of local community, native title, land and social issues and provides education and guidance to help communities and businesses achieve sustainable development.
Global law firm Herbert Smith Freehills has promoted seven lawyers in Australia to either executive or special counsel roles, including the Perth promotion of Christopher Hicks to special counsel. Mr Hicks specialises in corporate crime and investigations law and is also an experienced commercial litigator and advocate. Mr Hicks joined Herbert Smith Freehills in 2012 as a solicitor and rose to become senior associate in 2017. His new promotion will be effective May 1.
