McGrathNicol Restructuring was this evening put in charge of Roberts Co (VIC), with the appointment of Jason Ireland and Matthew Caddy as voluntary administrators.
The appointment was announced after work was halted today on the giant distribution centre being built for Amazon in Melbourne's Craigieburn industrial area.
Roberts Co is owned by Andrew Roberts and has emerged as a major alternative tier one construction firm in Western Australia in the past two years,offering competition to Multiplex.
Canadian-owned Multiplex was founded by Mr Roberts father John.
Roberts Co (VIC), which includes the operations of the failed Probuild business in Victoria, delivers construction projects under the Roberts Co and Monaco Hickey names in that state.
The appointment of was solely related to the Victorian operations, and was not over Roberts Co's Western Australian subsidiary operation which is in a joint venture with Webuild to construct Perth's Women and Babies Hospital.
"All Roberts Co VIC construction sites will be closed immediately until further notice," the administators said in an announcement.
"Our immediate focus is to stabilise operations and re-open sites, and work closely with the employees and their unions, clients, and sub-contractors to secure the best possible outcome for all stakeholders."
The first statutory meeting of creditors isexpected to take place on March 26 2025.
