Sue Ellery was a long-serving Labor Party member in the Western Australian parliament and a senior minister in the McGowan and Cook goverments, up to her retirement in 2025.
She was leader of the government in the Legislative Council. Her ministerial portfolios included Education and Training, Finance, Commerce and Women's Interests. Ms Ellery joined the Labor Party while at university, and in 1983 was the national women's officer for the Australian Union of Students. Prior to entering politics, she worked in the trade union movement including as an industrial advocate for the Liquor, Hospitality, and Miscellaneous Workers' Union.
