
Simon Crean was an Australian politician and trade unionist.
He was leader of the Australian Labor Party and leader of the opposition from 2001 to 2003, and had represented the seat of Hotham in the House of Representatives from 1990 to 2013. Mr Crean was a cabinet minister in the Hawke, Keating, Rudd and Gillard governments. He retired from politics in 2013.
Post-politics, Mr Crean was chair of the Australian Livestock Exporters Council, Australia-Korea Business Council, and the European Australian Business Council; co-chair of Cornerstone Group Advisory Board; an associate professor at Deakin University and chair of its Advanced Manufacturing Group; council member and deputy chancellor of Monash University; and director of Linfox and Melbourne's Luna Park.
Mr Crean passed away in Berlin in June 2023, while visiting Germany as part of an industry delegation.
