
Professor Peter Thompson AM is a clinical professor in Medicine and Population Health at the University of WA. He is also a consultant cardiologist at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, director of the Heart Research Institute, and deputy director of the Harry Perkins Institute for Medical Research. Prof Thompson's special interests are acute coronary syndromes and prevention of atherosclerosis. He also has a special interest in community control of coronary heart disease. Prof Thompson consults at the Busselton clinic of GenesisCare. In 1999, Prof Thompson was awarded the President’s Award for his contributions to the National Heart Foundation. He was also awarded an NHMRC Clinical Fellowship from 2006 to 2011, the Marshall and Warren Award for the most highly innovative and potentially transformative grant from among all the NHMRC grant applications in 2015, and the Minister for Health Award for Excellence in Healthcare in 2015.
