Northern Minerals has kicked off its mission to establish a rock-solid financial structure behind its 100 per cent-owned Browns Range rare earths project in northern Western Australia. Management says the Federal Government's Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility has completed a strategic review of its project and will now begin a detailed due diligence process as it considers a potential funding arrangement.

Northern Minerals has been awarded $5.9 million as part of the Australian Government's Critical Minerals Development Program. Management says the funding will go towards key work programs at its Browns Range rare earths project in Western Australia's East Kimberley region, including resource definition drilling at its Wolverine deposit, advanced front-end engineering and design and early work activities.

Heavy rare earths player Northern Minerals has appointed GR Engineering Services and MACA Interquip to conduct early phase engineering and design work for its proposed commercial-scale beneficiation plant at Browns Range, in the north of WA. The company considers the operation's Wolverine resource to be amongst the nation's highest-grade dysprosium and terbium orebodies and says the looming award of the contract is a key step in updating its definitive feasibility study for a full-scale processing hub.

Northern Minerals has tabled a 47 per cent increase to its Wolverine deposit mineral resource near Halls Creek in WA that now sits at 6.44 million tonnes at 0.96 per cent total rare earth oxide for 61,492 tonnes of TREO. The update follows an independent review by mining consultancy group CSA Global
