Neil Burrows grew up in the Murchison region of Western Australia. He graduated from the Australian National University in 1977 and completed a PhD on "Experimental development of a fire management model for jarrah forest". Mr Burrows has more than 35 years of experience working with Western Australian government conservation and land management agencies as an applied bushfire scientist, primarily in forest and desert ecosystems. He also has considerable experience as a science manager, including managing the WA Wildlife Research Centre and 14 years as director of science division at CALM and the Department of Environment and Conservation. Mr Burrows is the senior principal research scientist (fire) with WA Department of Parks and Wildlife, and an Adjunct Professor at the University of WA's School of Plant Biology.
