Narelle Thorne is an Indigenous employment & community investment advisor at Rio Tinto where she provides end-to-end recruitment support for Indigenous candidates and encourages stakeholders to develop their understanding of Aboriginal culture and its impacts on individuals in the recruitment process. She first joined Rio Tinto in 2010 as a mobile plant operator and has since held a range of roles, including as Aboriginal mentor & liaison officer and sourcing & community relationship advisor. After studying at the University of Western Australia, Ms Thorne spent 8 years as a journalist with the ABC and 8 years with the WA Department of Indigenous Affairs, working in media relations and policy development portfolios. She has an Associate Degree in Applied Science (Indigenous Community Management and Development) from Curtin University.
