Matthew Howard SC joined the WA Bar in 1996 and was appointed senior counsel in 2009. He has been in litigation practice for more than 30 years, and has appeared in all superior courts.
Mr Howard has a commercial and public law practice and takes briefs in criminal law. He is also experienced in complex commercial cases. He lectures in a variety of subjects including Ethics and Administrative Law.
Mr Howard was president of the Australian Bar Association, chair of Law Access Board, and chair of the Mental Health Law Centre. He is a barrister at Francis Burt Chambers, and was appointed a Judge of the Supreme Court of Western Australia in July 2023. Prior to that, he was an acting Parliamentary Inspector for the Corruption and Crime Commission of WA.
Mr Howard has been listed as one of Australia’s Best Lawyers – Litigation as published in The Australian Financial Review in 2013-2022, and as a leading barrister in Western Australia by Doyles Guide in 2015-2021.
