Matthew Curwood SC was admitted to practice in 1993, elected to the Bar in 2012, and appointed a senior counsel in 2020.
Since joining the Bar, Mr Curwood has a broad practice principally in wills and estates, equity and trusts, commercial matters and legal costs. He regularly appears as counsel in Supreme Court and District Court trials, on interlocutory matters and at mediations. He also regularly undertakes complex advice work in areas such as constructive trusts, fiduciary breach, contested probate and as to the merits of claims against deceased estates, specifically under the Family Provision Act.
Mr Curwood became a Judge of the District Court of Western Australia in mid-December 2023. Prior to that, he was with Francis Burt Chambers for 10 years, and a principal of his own legal practice Curwood & Co Lawyers where he assisted in a wide range of litigious disputes and in estate planning.
Mr Curwood has been recognised as a recommended or leading junior counsel in the Doyles Guide (Wills and Estates) each year since 2016.
