Dr Marcelo de Carvalho joined Orinoco Gold as country manager, head of exploration but became their vice president Brazil and operations manager from 2016 to 2018. Prior to joining Orinoco Gold in 2012, Dr Marcelo de Carvalho spent seven years with Yamana Gold, a large Canadian gold company, as generative exploration manager for Brazil where he was instrumental in identifying new opportunities for Yamana Gold and advancing its exploration projects including the 150,000ozpa Pilar Gold Mine through to feasibility study and mine construction. Prior to Yamana Gold, Dr de Carvalho was a geologist with Anglo Gold in the exploration division in the Amazon region and as a contractor for Vale.
In addition to Dr de Carvalho's Brazilian exploration experience, he has conducted exploration campaigns and due diligence work throughout South America including Honduras, Nicaragua, British Guiana and Argentina.
Dr Carvalho graduated from the State University of Sao Paulo with a Bachelor of Geology.
