Affinity Energy and Health has signed a non-binding heads of agreement with St John of God Hospital Subiaco to identify and undertake medical cannabis research and development projects. St John has a strong focus on research and medical excellence that is expected to help Affinity underpin the commercialisation of its Australian medical cannabis strategy.

Affinity Energy and Health is now one of just a handful of companies that have received approval to establish a medicinal cannabis cultivation and manufacturing facility in Malta. The company plans to use its proven RotoGro technology used in Canada to develop a facility capable of producing 3000 kilograms of cannabis bud per annum once all expansions are completed.

Affinity Energy and Health has doubled its algae culturing capacity from 20 grams per litre to 40gpl through innovative operating procedures without incurring any additional capital or operating cost increases. The company has identified potential to further increase its algae culturing capacity to 60gpl and expects to increase algae production to more than 250 tonnes per annum with minimal capital expenditure.

Affinity Energy & Health has signed an MoU with Skin Elements to investigate the use of its algae based products and cannabis oils in Skin Elements' range of natural skin care products. Commercial terms and financial arrangements will be negotiated at an appropriate time as product development initiatives progress.

Algae.Tec expects its Uruguayan partner Auberna to harvest the first crop of cannabis soon with up to 50kg of high-grade cannabidiol resin and powder to be delivered in the September quarter. The product is expected to sell for up to US40,000 per kg and the company is working with a range of wholesalers to arrange supply agreements for it.

Algae.Tec has secured a funding facility of up to $7m from New York financier Magna to drive several near-term expansion and development initiatives aimed at commercialising its algae and medicinal cannabis divisions. It is also finalising the spin-off of its Uruguay medicinal cannabis interests into a wholly-owned subsidiary that will seek up to $10m via a public listing.
