Julie Adams has worked in the area of oncology and haematology for the past 25 years, in a number of hospitals (both public and private) in Western Australia. In 2000, she was successful in obtaining a grant from the Health Department of WA to establish the Home Cancer Care Service, which enabled oncology and haematology patients from Royal Perth, Sir Charles Gairdner and Fremantle Hospitals to receive their chemotherapy and supportive care therapy at home. Julie is the immediate past Chair of the Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Australia Committee of Specialty Practice in Cancer Services, and continues to coordinate an extensive education program for pharmacists. She also sits on the Leukaemia Foundation’s WA and National Medical and Scientific Advisory Committees and is a member of the Cancer Pharmacists Group of the Clinical Oncological Society of Australia. Julie graduated from Curtin University in WA with a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree in 1986. She went on to complete her Post Graduate Diploma in Hospital Pharmacy in 1995, and in 1999 she successfully obtained Board Certification in Oncology Pharmacy (US). Julie won the Society of Hospital Pharmacists of Australia (WA) Achievement Award in 2010. The domiciliary nursing service, which she has managed for 12 years, won the WA Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Consumer Appreciation Award in 2011. She is currently enrolled in the Doctor of Philosophy program at UWA where she is undertaking research into the clinical and health economic outcomes of cancer patients taking oral chemotherapy medications.
