Dr John Wood was the deputy vice chancellor of Edith Cowan University and prior to that, he was the Foundation Professor and Dean of the College of Business at the University of Notre Dame where he was also the deputy vice chancellor (Academic). Mr Wood graduated with first class honours in Economics from the University of Western Australia and from Oxford with a Doctorate in Economics. He has undertaken Harvard's Executive Education Programme. Mr Wood taught at universities throughout the world including at Oxford, the American International University of Europe and Stanford. He held executive leadership positions including in the Office of the Prime Minister and in State Government in the Departments of Premier and Cabinet, Transport, Employment and Training, State Development and Commerce and Trade. He has served Ministers from all major political parties and also held senior private sector positions, including a period as chief economist and strategist with Ernst & Young. Mr Wood also served on numerous boards and was WA Chairperson of the Committee for Economic Development of Australia, chair of Perth Education City, and board member of HBF for 11 years. In April 2011, he was appointed by the State and Federal Ministers to the Australian Qualifications Framework Council. Mr Wood is also a director and publisher of Margaret River Press, a small and independent family publishing company.
