
Professor John Mattick AO is a SHARP Professor of RNA Biology at UNSW Sydney.
He was previously chief executive of Genomics England (2018-2019), and director of the Garvan Institute of Medical Research in Sydney (2012-2018).
Prof Mattick has over 300 research publications which have been cited over 80,000 times. He has received numerous awards including the Advance Global Impact Award (2019), the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center Bertner Award for Distinguished Contributions to Cancer Research (2014), the Human Genome Organisation Chen Medal for Distinguished Academic Achievement in Human Genetics and Genomic Research (2012), the International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Medal (2011), and the inaugural Gutenberg Chair at the University of Strasbourg (2007).
In 2001, Prof Mattick was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia for services to scientific research in the fields of molecular biology, genetics and biotechnology, particularly through the development and administration of research institutes and the Australian Genome Research Facility at the University of Queensland where he was foundation director.
