Professor Jane den Hollander AO was vice chancellor of Deakin University from 2010 until her retirement in 2019. In early 2020, she was appointed acting vice chancellor of the University of Western Australia, to replace the departing Dawn Freshwater until the incoming vice-chancellor Amit Chakma begins in the role in July 2020.
Prof den Hollander is a scientist by training, is interested in the nexus of education and health and how this influences employment and living good lives.
Her experiences as chair of Melbourne-based Global Health Alliance and chief executive of a large university of students and staff have informed her continuing interest in primary health care and its impact on communities in which we all live.
In 2017, Prof den Hollander was awarded an Officer of the Order of Australia for distinguished service to tertiary education. She was also awarded the Business Higher Education Round Table (BHERT) Ashley Goldsworthy medal for individual leadership in 2018, was named in the Victorian Honour Roll for Women in 2019, and received the Australian Financial Review 2020 Higher Education Lifetime Achievement Award.
