Ms Johnstone joined NSW Racing in the investigations and surveillance department in 2019. In 2022 Ms Johnstone was appointed to the position of general manager of integrity for Racing NSW. Before Ms Johnstone joined NSW Racing she worked as a detective for the NSW Police where she specialised in major crime.
