Gary Smith was Murdoch University’s seventh Chancellor and chair of the University Senate from July 2019 to May 2023.
Mr Smith was a partner of KPMG from May 2008 until his retirement in July 2019, during which he was also chair of partners in Western Australia from January 2012 to January 2019. He represented KPMG in dealings with state government, WA business and other WA stakeholders. Mr Smith was also responsible for the day-to-day running of the Perth office, developing relationships and business opportunities.
Mr Smith has been a board member of Reconciliation WA, Western Australian Aboriginal Leadership Institute, Rockingham Renaissance Technopole, and EDGE Employment Solutions. He is also a member of CEOs for Gender Equity, Friend of Wunan Foundation, and Trustee of the Committee for Economic Development of Australia.
Mr Smith holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting & IT from Deakin University, and is a Fellow of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand.
