Gareth Parker is an award-winning journalist.
Mr Parker began his career at The West Australian in 2004, working as a cadet journalist and a general news reporter specialising in local government, before spending two years as the newspaper’s Melbourne bureau chief. In 2009, Mr Parker returned to Perth as The West Australian’s deputy online editor. He then spent almost four years as the newspaper’s state political editor and columnist before moving to 6PR to work as a radio presenter and commentator. In 2017, Mr Parker was appointed presenter of 6PR’s morning program before being made host of its morning breakfast show. He will be leaving 6PR to become director of news at 9 News Perth.
In 2021, Mr Parker was named Journalist of the Year at the WA Media Awards for his exposé on the state government’s lax supervision of Crown Perth casino.
