Professor Erika Techera is an academic specialising in heritage and environmental law, with over 25 years of experience in legal study, practice and research, in Australia and the Indo-Pacific region. Prof Techera was the dean of Law from 2013-2016, director of UWA Oceans Institute in 2017, and interim pro vice chancellor (international) at the University of Western Australia in 2019. Her research focuses on international and comparative environmental law, with a particular expertise in issues related to marine environmental governance, heritage law, sustainable development and community-based marine management in small island states. Prof Techera has also published and presented widely in those areas including over 100 academic publications and other papers. She teaches subjects in the fields of international environmental law, heritage law and policy, and oceans governance.
