Professor Doug Hilton AO is a molecular and cellular biologist who has spent over 14 years on improving outcomes for cancer patients, as well as those suffering infectious and immune diseases, developmental disorders and age-related diseases.
Prof Hilton has been the chief executive of CSIRO since September 2023. He has also been a director of the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research, the Lorenzo and Pamela Galli Chair in Medical Biology, and head of the Department of Medical Biology at the University of Melbourne.
In 2016, Prof Hilton was awarded an Officer of the Order of Australia for distinguished service to medical research and education, particularly in the field of haematology, as a molecular biologist and author, to gender equity, and as a mentor of young scientists. He was also named Melburnian of the Year in 2020.
