Xanadu shares soar on $160m takeover offer

Xanadu Mines' share price soared more than 50 per cent today after the company received an 8 cents per share takeover offer from unlisted Bastion Mining, valuing the Mongolian-focused copper-gold developer at $160 million. The offer follows hot on the heels of an expired exclusivity period earlier this month over a control transaction the company was negotiating with joint venture partner and major shareholder Zijin Mining.

Xanadu triggers Mongolian copper-gold sale vote as JV deal stalls

In a major shift for Mongolia's Kharmagtai copper-gold project, Xanadu Mines has let its exclusivity deal with mining giant and JV partner Zijin lapse after failing to reach a control deal. Despite a promising proposal in April, Zijin could not commit within the tight timeframe. Xanadu will now pursue shareholder approval to trigger its 25% put option and reopen the door to other suitors, while continuing discussions with Zijin.

Xanadu hands reins for Mongolian project to Chinese mining giant

Xanadu Mines has received Australian Foreign Investment Review Board approval for Chinese mining giant Zijin to acquire shares in the company to develop its Kharmagtai copper-gold project in Mongolia. It is the first of three approvals required for Zijin to continue its three-phase investment in Xanadu that was announced in April. The project has a mineral resource estimate of 1.1b tonnes for three million tonnes of contained copper and eight million ounces of gold.
