Col Blanch has over 39 years of experience in the police force.
He has held several high-profile roles including as chair of the WA State Emergency Coordination Group, executive director of Intelligence for the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission, and state manager for Victoria's Australian Crime Commission.
Mr Blanch has been the deputy commissioner of the WA Police Force for 3 years and was promoted to commissioner on 15 July 2022. He has been overseeing key portfolios including gang crime, homicide, organised crime, and state intelligence. Mr Blanch has been directly responsible for transforming policing in Western Australia through employing cutting-edge technology to combine real time intelligence with operations. He has also been directly involved in shepherding WA through the COVID-19 pandemic.
