
Dr Andrew Leigh is an Australian politician, author, lawyer and former professor of economics at the Australian National University. He has been a Labor Party member, representing the seat of Fraser from 2010 to 2016 and the seat of Fenner thereafter.
Dr Leigh was the Parliamentary Secretary to Prime Minister Julia Gillard in 2013, and Shadow Assistant Treasurer and Shadow Minister for Competition from 2013 to 2019. Following the Labor Party's victory at the 2022 federal election, Dr Leigh became the Assistant Minister for Competition, Charities and Treasury under the Albanese government. In May 2023, he took on the additional role of Assistant Minister for Employment.
Prior to entering politics, Dr Leigh was a lawyer at Minter Ellison's Sydney office and Clifford Chance in London. He was then associate to Justice Michael Kirby of the High Court of Australia from 1997 to 1998, senior trade advisor to Shadow Minister for Trade Senator Peter Cook from 1998 to 2000, research fellow with the Progressive Policy Institute in Washington DC in 2001, and principal advisor to the Australian Treasury from 2008 to 2009.
