Dr Andrew 'Andy' Crane joined grain marketer Grain Pool (now CBH Group Marketing and Trading) in 2001 and was appointed general manager when Grain Pool merged with CBH Group in 2003. He was responsible for its operations including accumulation, trading and marketing of barley, canola and lupins under a 'single desk' export licence; and then the growth of the wheat business following the deregulation of Australia's grain export industry. Mr Crane then became general manager of strategy and business development in 2008 and chief executive in April 2009 until his departure in 2017.

Dr Crane was later appointed Chancellor of Curtin University from January 2019 to March 2024.
