Professor Alistair Forrest holds a BSc (Hons) in Biotechnology obtained at Murdoch University and a Masters in Information Technology from the Queensland University of Technology. He has also completed his PhD in Bioinformatics at the Institute for Molecular Bioscience at the University of Queensland.
In 2007, Professor Forrest moved to RIKEN Yokohama Japan where he took on more senior roles, including as scientific coordinator of the FANTOM5 (Functional Annotation of the mammalian genome) project consisting of a consortium of over 250 scientists in 20 countries.
After 20 years away from Perth he returned via funds raised through the MACA Cancer 200 and a Cancer Research Trust Senior Cancer Research Fellowship.
In 2020, Professor Forrest has been selected as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences.
