Korea-based multinational steel-making company POSCO was started in 1968 in Pohang. In 2015, it was ranked as the world's fourth-largest steelmaker.

It has been a major investor in the Western Australian minerals sector, including a minority investment in the Roy Hill iron ore project. It also has an engineering business based in Perth.
