Australia currently leads the globe in terms of lithium production and according to Geoscience Australia about 95 per cent of Australia's lithium resources are found within just five deposits and all are in WA. The renowned Greenbushes mine, 200km south of Perth, is the undisputed king when it comes to contained amounts of lithium and grade. The next two deposits on the leaderboard, Pilgangoora and Wodgina, both belong to the Pilbara, an area that is again a hotbed of exploration and discovery.

Tambourah Metals has identified further potential LCT-type pegmatites after analysing hyperspectral data from the company's Russian Jack lithium project in WA's Pilbara region. The analysis has lit up a number of features in similar orientations to known pegmatites at the project. In addition, Tambourah's newly identified features lie within the Bonney Downs Monzogranite that is part of the Split Rocks Supersuite which is known for hosting pegmatites.

The explorer also excited the market by claiming a small yet highly prospective tenement in the Pilbara's latest lithium hotspot.

Askari Metals has expanded its lithium foothold in WA's Pilbara region by entering a binding agreement to acquire all of the shares in private company, Greenstone Lithium, in exchange for an upfront consideration of $250,000 in cash and shares. The 65-square-kilometre project is considered prospective for lithium, tin and tantalum mineralisation and is comprised of one granted tenement and one tenement application.
