The value of Gina Rinehart's rare earths portfolio has more than tripled to about $2.69 billion on a share price rally since the sector was upended and governments intervened to break China's stronghold.

Gold Mountain has etched out a second intriguing rare earths patch at its Down Under project in Brazil, with a further 85 assays returned from a scout stream sediment survey showing values up to 4582ppm TREO. The company recently collected 800 samples in a first-pass reconnaissance program at its freshly-minted tenure – a stone's throw from Brazilian Rare Earths' Rocha da Rocha critical minerals province.

Gold Mountain has defined several new drill targets at its Down Under project in Brazil following the completion of extensive scout stream sediment sampling and 85 line kilometres of radiometric surveying. While 800 stream sediment samples have been collected to date, only 25 per cent of the results have been returned, with about 61 of them revealing strong potential for high-grade, monazite-hosted rare earths-niobium-uranium-scandium mineralisation.

Gold Mountain has found thorium anomalies – which may indicate high-grade rare earths – in four areas up to 250m wide within its Brazilian ground after tests with a new state-of-the-art hand-held spectrometer. The results from the Ronaldinho project area peaked at about 640 counts per second thorium. Management says the hits are similar to those from known rare earths grading more than 4 per cent TREO.

Gold Mountain says it has identified widespread granitoid and related rock types known to possess a strong potential to host rare earths minerals throughout its Down Under project in Brazil. The company says it has found many examples of leucogranites and charnockite rocks in five of its new tenements within the project where it is undertaking exploration stream geochemistry and other sampling.

Gold Mountain has kicked off a new thrust into rare earths exploration at its Down Under project after amassing a giant land position of some 970 square kilometres in the prospective Jequie province in Brazil. The company has pegged its ground largely based on areas of anomalous thorium and uranium geochemistry, which is known to be associated with rare earths mineralisation in the province.
