Hawkstone Mining has estimated that its Big Sandy lithium clay project could hold between 242.1 million tonnes and 417.6 million tonnes grading from 1,000 ppm to 2,000 ppm of lithium, in an Exploration Target unveiled this week. The company is completing a follow-up diamond drilling program over the Northern Mineralised Zone at Big Sandy, with the aim of generating a maiden JORC-compliant mineral resource.

Greenland Minerals has reduced civil construction costs for its massive Kvanefjeld rare earths project in southern Greenland by 44% to USD$175m following the completion of key engineering studies. The savings were achieved through substantial reductions in civil earthworks, an updated port design and greater use of local materials. The company added that process plant optimisation is also nearing completion.

Anglo Australian Resources has started an extensive drilling campaign that is aimed at fast-tracking development of its Feysville gold project, located 14km southeast of Kalgoorlie. The campaign includes infill drilling on the higher-grade core of the Think Big deposit and will also test shallow high-grade supergene gold mineralisation at the Saintly prospect and evaluate the potential for economic gold mineralisation at the Hyperno prospect.

Artemis Resources has fully committed to developing its West Pilbara gold assets and completing an upgrade of the strategic Radio Hill processing plant near Karratha in WA. The company will divest several non-core assets and is advancing discussions with other operators for toll treatment options through its Radio Hill plant for a number of stranded gold deposits within a suitable trucking distance.

Legend Mining has started aircore drilling over two intriguing base metal targets it located late last year at its Rockford project in the revered Fraser Range in WA. The first target at Rockford South returned results peaking at 3m @ 0.71% nickel and 0.04% cobalt from 40m down-hole. About 9.5km to the northeast, the company will target anomalous copper-zinc-silver mineralisation adjacent to an electrically conductive geophysical anomaly.

Venus Metals has delineated five prospective looking gold drilling targets from geophysical surveys completed along the under-explored Youanmi shear zone, centred 5km north of Spectrum Metals’ new Penny North discovery near the Youanmi mining centre in the Murchison region of WA. The shear zone hosts the company’s mothballed Youanmi gold mine and Spectrum’s Penny West gold project.

Metalicity Limited has used open file Government data to generate exploratory base metal targets and stake a new tenement, adjacent to the giant Admiral Bay zinc project in the Kimberley region of WA. The work interprets potential domed structural positions for the trapping of mineralised fluids, enhancing the prospectivity for mineralisation in areas nearer to the surface, than at Admiral Bay nearby.

Strike Energy has observed encouraging gas surges as it continues to depressurise its ground-breaking Jaws-1 deep coal seam gas well in the Cooper Basin, South Australia. This is consistent with the previous behaviour of the reservoir that resulted in the building desorption front in December last year. Water production rates are currently between 300 and 400 barrels per day.

King River’s decision to investigate acid processing at its giant WA Speewah vanadium- titanium-iron deposit is paying off, with a new engineering study pointing to potential big cuts in the estimated capex for the project. The company has been encouraged by the results and is on track to produce a pre-feasibility study in the September quarter for the project that houses the world’s largest vanadium deposit.

Hawkstone Mining has commenced drilling at its Big Sandy lithium clay project in Arizona state, US to follow up last year’s encouraging drill intersections and metallurgical test work results from the ore system. Best drill results included 43.8 metres grading 2,089 parts per million lithium from just 8.2m down-hole and the company recovered 95% of the lithium from clays by simple acid leaching techniques over 7 hours.

Buru Energy is cashed up, partnered up and has a glint in its eye again as it embarks on a multi-million dollar search for more oil riches in the lucrative Canning hydrocarbon basin in WA’s north. Buru is preparing to drill two production wells to increase production at its Ungani oilfield and up to four exploration wells to test promising oil prospects in the underexplored region. With $64m in the bank and Chinese firm Roc Oil riding shotgun with a $20m farm in agreement, Buru has its chip back on the board.

Tyranna Resources is continuing its determined push to extract near-term cash flow from the Eureka gold project, 50km north of Kalgoorlie. Just weeks after releasing an updated mineral resource, Tyranna has now appointed mining consultant firm Entech to work out the best way to get Eureka into production via processing through one of the many mills in the region and is also planning the next phase of exploration.

ASX-listed graphite specialist Blackearth Minerals is shooting for a high-grade target of up to 34 million tonnes at its Ianapera project in Madagascar after final assays from a trenching program produced yet more impressive results. Latest assays include 14m grading 14.0% total graphitic carbon and follow news earlier this month of a whopping 18m intersection going 22.06% TGC.

Lithium Australia has kicked off a preliminary feasibility study to evaluate the production of lithium iron phosphate battery cathode powders using mica feed material sourced from its Sadisdorf lithium-tin deposit in Germany. The study is seeking to provide supply chain security by delivering cathode materials that require neither cobalt or nickel whilst remaining competitive with batteries using standard lithium carbonate materials.

Caldius Resources does not appear to be resting on its laurels after recently announcing a 1.25 million ounce gold resource in the Pilbara with the ASX junior this week kicking off a drill program to test new targets at its highly prospective Warrawoona project. The program will test three high-priority targets from soil geochemistry that showed the largely unexplored region is still rich with potential.

Australian Potash has started a major study into the benefits of using its sulphate of potash product over the more typically used “muriate of potash” for the growing of crops in WA. The two-year study will be a collaboration with the Western Australian No-Tillage Farmers Association and The University of Western Australia. It will compare the effects of both potassium sources on crop yield, quality, safety and value.

TNG Ltd is finalising its environmental impact statement and permitting processes for its NT-based, Mount Peake vanadium-titanium-iron project and the proposed TIVAN downstream processing plant facility for refining high-value ore products, located close to Darwin. The company will haul concentrated products to a rail siding facility for transportation to Darwin, where the materials will be refined and then exported to customers in Asia.

88 Energy has started discussions with the preferred bidder to farm-in to the conventional acreage at its project known as “Project Icewine” in Alaska’s famed North Slope oil province. Evaluation work on the unconventional HRZ shale at Project Icewine is also continuing with the company expecting to have a dataroom ready by mid-2019, which will allow a formal farm-out process to begin.

Spectrum Metals has drilled high grade extensions at its Penny West gold project near Youanmi in WA, intersecting an 8 metre wide intercept of mineralisation grading 24.2g/t gold from 149m down-hole. The zone at Penny North is directly on strike from a historical open pit, that generated 85,000 ounces at 21.8g/t gold in the 1990s. The company has expanded its drilling campaign to follow up the discovery.

Neometals is now fully focussed on progressing the Barrambie vanadium-titanium-magnetite project near Sandstone, WA, towards a final investment decision this year following the completion of the $104m Mt Marion divestment. The company is also planning to complete the Canadian lithium‐ion battery recycling pilot and feasibility study and proving up the potential of its zeolite production process.

Great Southern Mining has discovered strongly anomalous cobalt and scandium mineralisation in laterite from historical aircore drilling programs completed at its Mt Weld project, near Laverton, WA. Best results were 12m @ 0.19% cobalt from 56m down-hole and 16m at 130g/t scandium from 38m down-hole in separate vertical drill holes. The company is also re-assaying drill samples for their platinum group metal potential.

Northern Minerals is raising up to $20m through multiple subscription agreements with a number of sophisticated investors to ramp up exploration at the Dazzler and Iceman prospects in the East Kimberley, WA. The company recently released a maiden resource estimate of 144,000 tonnes grading 2.23% TREO for the Dazzler prospect and expects to release an estimate for the Iceman prospect later this year.

Infinity Lithium is now better positioned to attract investment for its integrated San Jose mine and lithium hydroxide refining project in western Spain after increasing its ownership to 75% by paying AUD$1.6m to JV partner Valoriza Mineria over 14 months. Valoriza will retain its contractor rights to develop the project, ensuring that the partners remain aligned on their goals and focus on moving the venture forward.

Venus Metals has generated a new mineral resource estimate of 134.7 million tonnes grading 0.34% vanadium pentoxide for its Youanmi vanadium oxide project near Sandstone in WA. 64% of the mineral resources lie within the confident measured and indicated categories, which will allow the company to accelerate scoping studies and metallurgical test work and define a maiden ore reserve, based on more targeted definition drilling programs.

St George Mining has drilled two holes that intersected nickel sulphide mineralisation at the new Fairbridge prospect of its Mt Alexander project near Leonora, WA, with a large chargeable anomaly to the north of these holes to be drilled this week. Drilling has also confirmed that a new nickel sulphide zone exists in the previously unexplored 500m strike zone between the Stricklands and Investigators prospects in the Cathedrals Belt.

Coziron Resources’ directors have provided the company with $125,000 in interim funding by way of loans that are convertible into company shares for working capital. The company is planning to carry out infill drilling at its Buddadoo vanadium project in the Murchison, WA, to generate a JORC resource and has identified a number of drill ready targets at the Croydongold project in WA’s Pilbara region.

Hammer Metals is adding another string to its bow with the acquisition of the Bronzewing South gold project in the heart of WA’s gold-rich Yandal greenstone belt. Despite being located along strike from the 4 million ounce Bronzewing mine and the 1 million ounce Orelia deposit, the project remains relatively underexplored due to the transported cover that ranges between 2m and 40m in thickness.

Bellevue Gold’s first pass step-out drilling at its Bellevue project northwest of Leinster in the WA Goldfields has doubled the strike lengths of the high-grade Viago and Tribune gold lodes. Notable results include 4m @ 14.8g/t gold and 6m @ 24.9g/t gold. The company expects to release an upgrade to the current resource of 1.5 million contained ounces grading 11.8g/t gold in the second quarter of this year.

Image Resources has started a program to upgrade ore reserves at its Boonanarring heavy minerals project north of Perth after achieving higher than expected grades since production commenced in December last year. Ore production in January achieved HM grades of 12.6%, more than double the 6% HM estimate of the ore reserve, whilst zircon was 33.5% of the HM content compared to an estimate of 22.9%.

Artemis Resources has completed a ground geophysical gravity survey program over priority exploration targets it defined in January over the Armada project in the emerging Paterson Range copper-gold province of WA. The company will now integrate the processed gravity data with the recently collected magnetic data to identify and prioritise potential drilling targets at the intriguing project.

PharmAust is basking in the early success of Phase I clinical trials for its flagship anti-cancer drug Monepantel in dogs. Preliminary results show that the blood concentrations of Monepantel in the test subjects already exceeded levels observed to achieve anti-cancer activity after administrating just one tablet. The company has now started the dose escalation component of the Phase I trial on schedule.

Rox Resources will start poking holes in its exciting looking portfolio of WA-based gold projects in the northeastern Goldfields next quarter with a view to proving up new mineral resources in the under-explored region. The company already holds 89,000 resource ounces at its Mt Fisher project and confidently expects to grow this with a full revision of historical data and a focussed work program.
