The state government has awarded $25 million in contracts over Aboriginal heritage survey services across Western Australia.
In a recently awarded tender, the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage procured 10 contractors to establish a panel of qualified heritage consultants.
Among the recipients are Aboriginal Land Services in Busselton, Archae-aus in North Fremantle, Big Island Research in Applecross, Echoes Cultural Heritage Management in Cockburn Central, Oasis Heritage Solutions in Thornlie, Snappy Gum Heritage Services in Belmont, Trace Archaeology in Osborne Park.
Fremantle companies Dortch Cuthbert and Terra Rosa Cultural Resource Management were also awarded as part of the tender.
Brisbane-based Everick Heritage is the only non-WA company on the list of recipients.
Tenders WA shows the aim of the panel was for the consultants to provide Aboriginal heritage survey work, for archaeology and anthropology services, under a program.
“To assist with the recognition, management, protection, and preservation of Aboriginal sites in WA, the state government has committed to a ten-year Aboriginal Heritage Survey Program across the state,” according to a tender document.
“An Aboriginal heritage survey may be required where it is unknown if there is Aboriginal heritage in a survey area.
“Alternatively, a survey may be required if adequate Aboriginal heritage survey reports are not available, to confirm the presence or absence of Aboriginal heritage.”
